Can you empower and maximize a spell?
Empower is far better. Empower is only one spell slot higher than normal, maximize is more expensive. Empower is *two* slots higher, maximize is three. Empower is better if you have a +2 or higher damage bonus per die e.g. from dragonic bloodline and gear.
Is empowered spell good?
Maybe casting an extended False life with a 5th level spell slot or higher, or extending Invisibility out of combat? Empowered is good for bumping up your average damage.
