Ludum Dare was founded in April 2002 by Geoff Howland. Today and for many years it’s been operated by Mike Kasprzak. In April 2002, Ludum Dare began as a dare. Geoff Howland proposed a challenge: “Lets try making games from scratch in 24 hours”.

Ludum Dare is an event where you create a game from scratch in a weekend based on a theme. Themes are suggested and chosen by the community. Theme Suggestions are accepted starting 5 weeks before the event. Theme Voting kicks off 2 weeks before the event.

Participants rapidly prototype game designs and inject new ideas to help inspire and grow the global game industry.
